About Home Care

About Home Care

This is a form of periodic treatment and care for those who require periodic treatment by a physician but who have difficulty going to the hospital.
We provide periodic home care at least twice monthly to keep up with changes in patients’ daily lives.

The following kinds of home care treatments are covered by health insurance, and patients and their families are allowed to manage these themselves.

- Breathing therapy: Home oxygen therapy, home artificial respiration therapy, home positive pressure breathing therapy
- Nutritional therapy: Home intravenous hyperalimentation, nutritional tube feeding
- Excretory therapy: Home self-catheterization, continuous urethral catheter drainage, artificial anuses and other treatments
- Home injection therapy: Medical injections such as insulin and morphine
- Kidney support therapy: Home dialysis treatment

However, there are no particular restrictions on home care performed by visiting healthcare providers. Therefore, by combining the home care continuously managed by the patient and their families with the treatment provided by healthcare workers when they visit, it can be said that almost the same treatment can be received at home as at a hospital. For example, there are cases of patients receiving blood transfusions and antibiotic treatment periodically while receiving home care.

Additionally, when various care related advice is necessary in carrying out one’s home life, sometimes at-home treatment by a visiting healthcare professional is required for health management.

What is a home care support clinic?

A home care support clinic is a clinic that is able to be contacted by the patient 24 hours a day, providing doctor's visits and home nursing. They were newly established through a revision to the medical insurance system in 2006.

1. Clinic must be a health insurance-covered medical institution.

2. Clinic must be staffed by physicians and nursing staff who the patient can contact 24 hours a day, and its contact information must be provided to the patient in writing.

3. Clinic must maintain the ability to provide doctor's visits 24 hours a day as required by the patient, primarily from the clinic as well as through collaboration with physicians from other health insurance-covered medical institutions, and must provide the name of visiting physicians, dates of visitation, etc. to the patient in writing.

4. Clinic must maintain the ability to provide home nursing staff's visits 24-hours a day based on the instructions of the clinic’s physicians to meet the needs of the patient, from the clinic or through collaboration with nursing staff from other health insurance-covered medical institutions and home-visit nursing stations, and must provide the names of these home nursing staff and the dates of visitation, etc. to the patient in writing.

5. Clinic must maintain the ability to receive emergency inpatients from home care patients at the clinic itself or other health insurance-covered medical institutions in collaboration with each other.

6. Clinic must be affiliated with nursing support staff (care managers), etc., who are in charge of coordinating medical service and nursing care service

7. Clinic must report the number of deaths at home after providing end-of-life home care, etc.
